DEWA monitors cyber attacks, leaks and malfunctions and fixes them immediately

Dubai: “The Bay”
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has developed a number of innovations based on artificial intelligence technology, to improve the efficiency of operational processes in the water network in Dubai and to monitor, isolate and repair cyber-attacks, leaks and failures immediately.
The authority said the innovative solutions work to predict malfunctions of smart meters and pumps based on sensor data, in addition to automating the notifications sent to customers in the event of a potential water leak, boosting the Emirate’s competitiveness. Dubai, supporting its superiority over elite European and American companies in many indicators In 2021, the percentage of losses in water networks reached 5.3% compared to 15% in North America, which is one of the lowest rates recorded in the world .
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, indicated that DEWA is working to reframe the role of service institutions and digitize them through “Digital DEWA”, the digital arm of DEWA, to become the first digital institution in the world with autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage. And the expansion of the use of artificial intelligence and the provision of digital services in accordance with the “Dubai 10X” initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, must God bless him.
He added: “We are working to achieve the goals of the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 and we continue to devise proactive solutions to the challenges of the next fifty years to make the UAE the best country in the world by its 100th anniversary in 2071 .

The Authority’s infrastructure, the adoption of innovation, the latest tools for future foresight and sound scientific planning, have enabled the Authority to keep pace with the increase in water demand in Dubai.
The authority’s production capacity is currently 490 million gallons of desalinated water per day, of which 63 million gallons use reverse osmosis technology. The total lengths of the Authority’s water transmission and distribution lines reached 13,592 kilometers across the Emirate of Dubai until the end of 2021, helping the Authority continue to provide its services to more than three and a half million residents of Dubai, in addition to millions of visitors.”
Among the most prominent innovations of the Authority based on artificial intelligence to increase the efficiency of the water network: the “iService” service; Where meter diagnostic data is collected to monitor service interruptions and initiate fault repair automatically; the “meter error detection” technology that relies on alerts from smart meters; And the Hydronet project, which is based on artificial intelligence and deep learning, developed by the authority to remotely monitor and control Dubai’s water network. The project is characterized by its ability to integrate with the latest (SCADA) systems, and its ability to provide real-time data on the state of the network, in addition to fixing leaks in seconds without any human intervention. 2020”. The authority also provides a “high water usage alert” service, which is part of the smart response initiative, to help customers detect any leaks in the water connections after the meter.
