U.S. approves non permanent transport waiver for Puerto Rico after hurricane By Reuters

(Reuters) – The Biden administration on Wednesday agreed to approve a waiver of U.S. transport guidelines to handle Puerto Rico’s rapid wants within the wake of a devastating hurricane.
Homeland Safety Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas authorized “a brief and focused Jones Act Waiver.”
The waiver is to make sure Puerto Ricans have ample diesel to run mills wanted for electrical energy and the functioning of essential services after Hurricane Fiona. The Jones Act is a century-old regulation that requires items moved between U.S. ports to be carried by U.S.-flagged ships.
