The Miami Heat basketball team on Wednesday night urged fans to call their senators to advocate for gun reform laws ahead of a playoff game after 19 children and two adults were killed in a shooting at a Texas elementary school on Tuesday.

“The Heat urge you to contact your state senators by calling 202-224-3121 to leave a message calling for their support for common sense weapons legislation,” the stadium reporter said as the team prepared to play Boston Celtics in game 5 in the game. the teams’ playoff series.

A moment of silence was observed before the announcement.

Other teams have kept quiet moments since the shooting. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who has previously been candid about social issues, said Tuesday night that he did not want to talk about basketball.

“When are we going to do something?” he said. “I’m so tired of coming up here and condoling to the broken families out there. I’m so tired. Excuse me. I’m sorry. I’m tired of moments of silence. Enough.”
