The GANGS OF NEW YORK collection – newsdubai
Bands of New York will get TV therapy as a result of Hollywood is totally out of concepts, that’s why.
Miramax Tv is basing the collection on Martin Scorcese’s 2002 movie, which was tailored from the 1927 Herbert Asbury ebook of the identical title. Scorcese returns as an government producer and also will direct a number of episodes.
Similar Ol’ Similar Ol’
In keeping with Deadline, particulars in regards to the collection are sketchy, however we anticipate to … drumroll please … see a brand new model of the story with new characters. Will these individuals ever study?
Bands of New York starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz, John C. Reilly, Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, Henry Thomas, Jim Broadbent and lots of extra. Presently, not one of the authentic forged members are anticipated to return.
But when current historical past has taught us something about “reissues”, it’s that when this inevitably fails as a result of it takes the supply materials and craps throughout it, anticipate a number of huge star pictures to be wheeled out to draw curiosity – effectively, I’m you Qui Gon Jinn!
The ebook
Asbury’s ebook describes the confrontations between rival gangs in New York within the mid-to-late 1800s, specializing in the saloons, playing dens and winding alleys of the Bowery and 5 Factors district of Decrease Manhattan.
The ebook tells the tales of hardship and violence from a turbulent period when infamous gangs together with the Plug Uglies, Useless Rabbits and Bowery Boys dominated the streets. It features a rogues gallery of prostitutes, pimps, poisoners, pickpockets, murderers and thieves. It’s refreshing to see how a lot New York has modified for the reason that nineteenth century.
Scorcese
Bands of New York will not be one of many movies I instantly consider when discussing Martin Scorsese. I’m not saying it’s a nasty film, nevertheless it’s not one I discovered memorable. I’ll admit although that I haven’t seen it shortly and want to look at it once more, nevertheless it’s receiving usually constructive evaluations.
Naturally, Daniel Day-Lewis’ efficiency as Invoice The Butcher was extensively praised, and the movie obtained ten nominations on the seventy fifth Academy Awards, together with Finest Image, Finest Director for Scorsese, and Finest Actor for Day-Lewis. It received nothing.
This actually wouldn’t be Scorcese’s first TV collection to deal with gangs and violence. He was the manager producer of the wonderful HBO drama Boardwalk Empireand he received an Emmy for steering the pilot episode.
If in the correct fingers, this has the potential to be one other nice violent gang associated collection just like the aforementioned Boardwalk Empire, the thread, and arguably the perfect present ever made for tv, The sopranos. Solely time will inform, I suppose.
