Stanford cancels personal lessons because of the corona virus

Personal lessons at Stanford University will be canceled from March 9 as a faculty member tested positive for coronavirus, and two students isolated themselves after “possible exposure.” Neither student has tested positive for the virus, according to a statement from the university, but the Stanford provost Said Persis Drell late Friday that the university will move some classes online “as far as possible”.
The exams for the winter quarter of Stanford, which is in the last two weeks, are given in take-home formats. The school remains open, but cancels this year’s Admit Weekend, where potential incoming freshmen visit the campus. Stanford also cancels all campus tours and previously suspended international study programs abroad.
Santa Clara County, where Stanford is located, has the largest number of coronavirus cases in California, with the number rising to 24 on Friday.
Stanford is the second major university to cancel classes due to the corona virus outbreak. The University of Washington too will move classes online from 9 March to the end of the winter quarter. One of the university staff tested positive for the virus, but UW planned to suspend classes before the case was announced, the New York Times reported. Have at least 11 deaths from coronavirus reported in the state of Washington so far.
