Sony unveils new PS5 details in a "deep dive" on March 18

Sony plans to share its PlayStation 5 hardware at a special event on March 18. Today, the company announced an upcoming “deep dive” on the next-gen console, where system architect Mark Cerny will talk about “PS5’s system architecture and how it will shape the future of games.” The event will be broadcast on the official PlayStation blog.

The special event follows Sony’s confirmation of the PlayStation 5 name in October and details of the console’s power earlier in 2019. The PS5 will use an eight-core CPU (which will be based on AMD’s third-generation Ryzen line) and a custom GPU based on AMD’s Radeon Navi hardware. Sony also supports 8K resolutions, 3D audio, 4K gaming at 120 Hz, an option for lower power consumption and it includes an ultra-fast SSD in the new console.

Sony’s event comes just days after Microsoft revealed full specifications for the Xbox Series X console. Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox will include a custom AMD Zen 2 CPU with eight cores clocked at 3.8 GHz each, a custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU with 12 teraflops and 52 units of account clocked at 1,825 GHz each. The console also includes 16 GB GDDR6 RAM with a custom 1 TB NVME SSD storage drive and the ability to expand the storage with 1 TB expansion cards.
