Runs collapses, dies in Brooklyn half marathon

A person who ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon collapsed and died Saturday morning, the New York City Fire Department said.

Police say the 30-year-old man was found unconscious and did not respond to Ocean Parkway on Brighton Beach just before noon.

He was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital. The cause of death of the runner has not yet been determined.

According to authorities, more than 15 runners were transported to area hospitals during the race due to the day’s summer-like heat.

Over 22,000 participants ran from Prospect Park to the Coney Island boardwalk in the half marathon, which returned to full capacity for the first time in three years.

Despite record temperatures, attendees said they drank plenty of water and took other precautions to stay cool during the event.
