Rachel McAdams expected to play more characters
It’s a great weekend for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Doctor Strange returns with a new film by director Sam Raimi, his first in nine miserable years. But more importantly, in perhaps largest news to MCU when someone decided we should show them Andrew Garfield Spider Man movie little respect, Rachel McAdams has returned home.
With appearances for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2016, McAdams is repeating his role as fan favorite Dr. Christine Palmers. While both fans and producers of action figures have demanded Dr. Palmer’s return, McAdams thought she was a one-and-done MCU veteran.
Talking to IndieWireMcAdams says she did not expect to return to the sequel. “I think a lot of script work was done, and so on there was a kind of shift change“And even then, according to McAdams, it was not safe. Even though rumors swirled about her return,” she was still in the dark, and then it was like, ‘Okay, I’m coming now, okay! ”
Unfortunately, when we get movies about 9,000 Spider-Men running around pointing at each other, McAdams rightly assumed that she would at least get to play three versions of Dr. Palm trees in a film about a friggin ‘ Multiverse of madness. Unfortunately, she was limited to two.
“It changed a little bit compared to what I was initially told, [which was] that it would be three different versions, and we ended up with two different versions in the end, ”says McAdams. “But they said I wanted to play a very different version of the Christine Palmer I played in the first movie, that I was not an emergency room doctor, just a completely different person with a completely different life experience.” Very different is a lot, but we take as much McAdams as we can get.
Perhaps Kevin Fiege thought the cinemas could not cope with the full roar of a crowd experiencing so many Dr. Palmers. It’s a shame though. We would have loved to see one of the viral videos of theaters going wild for every Dr. Palm trees coming into the picture.
