“Mohammed bin Rashid Energy” is the cornerstone of achieving 100% clean energy
Dubai: “The Bay”
In October 2021, the United Arab Emirates launched its strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality in 2050, becoming the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to launch this strategic initiative, and Dubai also launched the Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050 to deliver 100% of the production capacity of energy from sources Clean energy in 2050. One of the largest renewable and clean energy projects, implemented by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority to achieve this goal, is Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest solar energy complex in one place in the world with a production capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030 with investments of up to 50 billion dirhams. When completed, the complex will reduce more than 6.5 million tons of carbon emissions annually.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO and CEO of the Authority, confirmed that the regulatory and regulatory framework in Dubai, which allows private sector participation in energy production projects in the Emirate of Dubai, encouraged global investors and developers to participate in Mohammed bin projects Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, implemented by the Authority under the system The independent energy producer, noting that the Authority has attracted investments estimated at 40 billion dirhams through this model, which encourages public-private partnerships, and has achieved world records for the lowest prices for solar energy projects in five consecutive times as Dubai has become a benchmark for solar energy prices worldwide.
He added: “We work in the Authority within the framework of the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, to promote sustainability, innovation and transformation towards a sustainable green economy by increasing the percentage of clean and renewable energy to be achieved. vision, as its production capacity will reach 5,000 megawatts by 2030. The capacity of the solar energy projects that have been operated in the complex is 1,527 megawatts using solar panels, and the authority has 1,333 megawatts projects under implementation using solar panels and concentrated solar energy, in addition to future stages further to reach 5,000 megawatts by 2030. The percentage of clean energy production capacity has reached approx. ng 11.4% of the total energy mix in Dubai and is expected to reach About 14% by the end of this year.
Innovation and research
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park includes two pilot projects: the Innovation Center and the Research and Development Center. Through the Innovation Center, DEWA aims to support innovation and creativity in clean and renewable energy and to raise awareness of sustainability, in addition to refining national capabilities and improving the competitiveness of companies.
The Innovation Center provides visitors with a unique experience to explore the latest innovations in clean energy technologies, starting with the exhibition floor on the first floor, which highlights the Dubai Electricity and Water Authoritys march in addition to the most prominent historical inventions and innovations in electricity and recent developments in renewable and sustainable energy. The exhibition area includes more than 30 interactive exhibitions to acquaint visitors with developments in renewable energy, in addition to the Authority’s museum, water desalination plant, a visual area explaining the characteristics of light and solar radiation, an exhibition on the development of solar energy. energy technologies, the basic components of photovoltaic cells, photovoltaic and concentrated solar technologies and the solar tower. The development of renewable energy at DEWA, smart DEWA, solar cell applications in spacecraft and satellites, a model showing the mechanism of the electric car, and a wind turbine, in addition to the development of sustainable buildings in DEWA.
The Research and Development Center supports the authority’s efforts to anticipate the future and develop long-term proactive plans to keep pace with the fourth industrial revolution and innovate disruptive technologies. The Research and Development Center’s areas of work include “solar energy”, “smart grid integration”, “energy efficiency” and “water” in addition to space technology and applications of the fourth industrial revolution, including “3D printing and additive manufacturing” as one of the solutions Innovative spare parts production .
