L&T Construction Bags Contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

The construction of India’s largest engineering company has won a contract on the country’s first bullet train project.

The railway company in L&T Construction has secured a contract from National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. to build 116 routes of high-speed ballast-free tramlines for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, according to a statement on Thursday.

Upon completion, this plate track system will allow trains to run at speeds of up to 320 km per hour.

A ballastless track or slab track is a type of railway track infrastructure in which the traditional elastic combination of tie / sleeper and ballast is replaced by a rigid construction of concrete or asphalt.

The scope of work includes the design, delivery, construction and testing and commissioning of track works on a design-based one-off price basis for the dual high-speed railway between Vadodara and Sabarmati.

According to L&T, a contract worth Rs 2,500-5,000 is a large order.

Japanese Shinkansen runway technology will be used in this project.

At present, the company is carrying out various ballastless track projects in several metro projects in India and abroad.
