Lou Reed: Phrases & Music Could 1965 Evaluate – Revealing Early Cuts
This is the sound of Lou Reed and John Cale in a room laying down demos for what would turn out to be a few of the Velvet Underground’s best-known songs. Right here, in splendid embryo, I’m ready for the person and the heroin, plus a dozen extra authentic carvings; simply vocals and acoustic guitar, with the occasional harmonica on high. A recognizable nasal Reed introduces every track with variations of “music and lyrics, Lou Reed”.
Their Bob Dylan cowl – Don’t Suppose Twice, It’s All Proper – units the tone. A lot of this compilation is closely steeped within the people period, and but Reed’s signature sound is unmistakable. The demo was shot on reel-to-reel and served as an inexpensive technique to show copyright when he despatched it to himself. The envelope was deliberately left unopened till it was discovered amongst Reed’s results in a storage unit. These variations, beforehand unheard on some other archival launch, actually add to his already appreciable mythos. Pale Blue Eyes modified quite a bit between 1965 and its recording within the 1969s The Velvet Underground LP. A track referred to as Males of Good Fortune would find yourself on Reed’s Berlin album, however this can be a radically completely different people track. Maybe the sweetest of all is a doo-wop lower, Too Late, which finds Reed and Cale hanging round.
