Jharkhand: ED arrests CA attached to IAS officer in money laundering case

The ED on Saturday arrested a state-authorized public accountant under the Money Laundering Act in a case involving alleged embezzlement of MGNREGA funds in Jharkhand’s Khunti district, as part of which state mine secretary and IAS officer Pooja Singhal and others were assaulted, officials said . CA Suman Kumar was remanded in custody under the Money Laundering Prevention Act (PMLA) around 1 p.m. 17:00 in Ranchi and he would be brought before a local court where the Enforcement Agency would seek his further custody, they said.

Officials claimed CA was “evasive in its responses” to the alleged cash recovery worth Rs 17.79 crore from his Ranchi premises after the agency conducted raids in this case.

The ED has alleged that Kumar, also a financial adviser, has links to IAS officer Pooja Singhal and her family.

The federal agency seized a total of Rs 19.31 crore in cash after these raids, and it also recorded Singhal’s preliminary statement during the searches.
