James Gunn says he does not want to make more ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films
Guardians of the Galaxy was a bit of a dark horse when it hit theaters in 2014. It was a risk for Marvel to use a lesser known property, but one that paid off, not a small part thanks to the director James Gunn. The filmmaker has helped all three films, including a holiday special coming out this year, with footage on bind. 3 quite recently about to be over.
The director shared an emotional farewell on Twitter, sharing in several tweets his love for the cast and crew, and the fact that they still have a long way to go in terms of post-production.
A fan asked if the director would return to continue directing the motley room crew, to which Gunn replied, “I made the three I made on my own terms. This is the end of this story and of this team.”
We may see some of the Guardians complete their stories in the MCU in the final part of the trilogy, but others may find themselves joining another team or embarking on their own solo adventure similar to Loki and his Disney Plus miniseries.
However, James Gunn still has plenty of superhero stories to tell as he will continue to work with DC on a number of projects, including another season of Founder of Peace and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller spinoff.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming to the cinema on May 5, 2023. Before then The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will stream on Disney Plus in December 2022.
