IPL 2022: Overseas DC Player Tests Positive, Squad’s Trip to Pune Delayed
A foreign player in the Delhi Capitals team has tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the franchise to postpone its trip to Pune for the next IPL game against Punjab Kings on Wednesday. Obviously, an Australian all-rounder showed some symptoms and had a Rapid Antigen Test performed and positive.
DC was supposed to travel to Pune today but all squad members have been told to retreat to their respective rooms and protocol is being done RT PCR to determine if there is an outbreak in the camp or if it is a isolated case like Patrick Farhart,” a BCCI source said PTIA on Monday.
Obviously another member of the support staff has also exhibited symptoms, but RT-PCR results are awaited.
“All teams will stay at the Conrad Hotel in Pune where BCCI has created a bio-bubble. They were supposed to travel, but that has now been postponed. It is clear that all those whose results were negative would continue their journey tomorrow,” the source said. The development comes after team physio Farhart tested positive last week. “We were supposed to leave today, but we were told to stay in the room until further notice,” said a team source.
As COVID cases increase outside the IPL bio-bubble, so has the virus threat within the protected environment.
Last season, the tournament had to be suspended midway through the second wave before it could be completed in the UAE in September-October.
