INDECOM investigates deadly taking pictures by member of JDF at SOE checkpoint


Jamaica’s Unbiased Fee of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the deadly taking pictures of a 24-year-old man by a soldier on Monday close to a Kingston Central checkpoint.

The deceased has been recognized as Terron Hewitt.

In keeping with reviews from JDF members, an altercation developed between members of the general public and a bunch of troopers on the checkpoint.

Through the confrontation, one soldier fired his weapon at Hewitt, who was subsequently taken to the Kingston Public Hospital the place he was pronounced lifeless.

INDECOM famous that members of the Jamaica Constabulary Power (JCF) weren’t current or concerned within the incident and no firearm was reported as recovered or in Hewitt’s possession on the time of the incident.

A video that captured the incident has since gone viral on social media.

The fee is requesting anybody who witnessed the incident to come back ahead and assist with the inquiry.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a State of Public Emergency (SOE) in sections of the island amid a rise in murders.

Holness made the announcement throughout a press convention at Jamaica Home final week Tuesday.

An SOE has been established for the parishes of Clarendon, St Catherine, St James, Westmoreland, and Hanover and sections of Kingston and St Andrew.

Holness in addition to Police Commissioner Main Normal Antony Anderson famous that there was a substantial spike in murders within the earlier six months.
