Dionne Warwick reacts after US Open TV announcers mistake her for Gladys Knight – newsdubai
The US Open has attracted many celebrities as they watch Serena Williams compete in what will be her final tennis tournament. However, there has been quite a bit of action in the stands, as well as on the tennis court.
On Wednesday night, legendary singer Dionne Warwick was spotted in the crowd during Serena’s match. But the TV announcers who were talking during the match confused her with another legendary singer…Gladys Knight.
According to TMZthe announcers responsible for the mix-up were Mary Carillo and Chanda Rubin.
On Thursday, Dionne had a little fun with her response to the situation, using the song titles of Gladys’ classic hit “Midnight Train to Georgia“, and her classic hits “Walk past“, and as well as Aretha Franklin’s “I say a little prayer.”
Dionne tweeted: “Hi, I’m Gladys Knight… and instead of taking that midnight train to Georgia, I won’t pass by but will say a little prayer for you.”
In a statement to TMZ, reps for Gladys Knight released a statement in which she said,
“Dionne and I have been sisters for a long time, and I hope she is as honored to be mistaken for me as I would be her. I’m sure it was an honest mistake. It was a blessing to be in the house to see Serena’s greatness.”
This is not the first time a case of mistaken identity has occurred since the US Open began.
As earlier reported earlier this week that some fans thought actress Laverne Cox was Beyoncé when she cheered on Serena Williams while in the audience.
