The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority invests in artificial intelligence techniques to create solutions, programs and initiatives that contribute to the development and improvement of performance and productivity and increase the quality of the authority’s services.
The authority, through “Digital DEWA”, the authority’s digital arm, is working to reframe the concept of service institutions to help create a new digital future for the Emirate of Dubai. Replacement and modification of the service institutions’ operating model and transformation into the first digital institution in the world with autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage, expanding the use of artificial intelligence techniques and providing digital services.
promising plans
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said: “The Authority’s plans are in line with promising government strategies and plans, including the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, which aims to develop an integrated system, applying artificial intelligence in vital areas of the United Arab Emirates, and the Dubai 10X initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, and it constitutes a working approach for the Dubai Government to move Dubai towards future leadership, making it 10 years ahead of the world’s cities through government innovation and reformulation of traditional concepts of working mechanisms.
The Authority’s use of the latest innovative technologies contributed to achieving the highest global results compared to elite service institutions in Europe and the United States. The percentage of smart adoption of the authority’s services reached 98.99% by the end of the second quarter of 2022, and the authority has completed the digital integration of more than 70 projects with public and private agencies.
Digital DEWA is based on 4 axes: launching advanced solar energy technologies in Dubai, operating a renewable energy network using innovative energy storage technologies, integrating clean energy and storage and expanding the use of integrated artificial intelligence solutions as Dubai becomes the first city , which relies on artificial intelligence. By providing electricity and water services in addition to expanding the range of digital services.
innovative solutions
Among the most prominent innovative solutions provided by the authority, based on artificial intelligence and the latest technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, is the virtual employee of the authority “Rammas”, which relies on artificial intelligence and works through 7 channels to serve customers: ” the authority’s website, the authority’s smart application and “Alexa” systems » From Amazon, Google Assistant, WhatsApp, Facebook and robots.
Rammas provides a number of the authority’s services and provides many functions such as answering customer inquiries in Arabic and English around the clock.
The authority uses artificial intelligence to increase customer and employee happiness and improve the performance of its systems through “Rammas for Customers”, “Rammas for Business Enhancement” and “Empowering Operations through Rammas”. Rammas has answered more than 6.4 million inquiries since its launch in the first quarter of 2017 until the end of June 2022.
cyber security
The Cyber Security Center at the authority works to exploit artificial intelligence techniques and big data and the benefits they provide to verify potential security risks and reduce the time it takes to take the necessary measures.
Customer Service Center
Through its Customer Care Center, the Authority provides a consistent, integrated and hassle-free experience for customers so that they can conduct their transactions anytime, anywhere. The integrated interactive digital center includes a unified and advanced information base that enables employees to respond to customer inquiries more accurately and quickly.
The center includes a dynamic list supported by artificial intelligence that enables the center’s staff to identify the caller and access the customer’s communication record with the authority through various communication channels, as well as all the voice calls made with the authority and correspondence via e – email or instant visual and written conversations between the two parties.
Robotic process automation
The project deals with the automation of workflows based on artificial intelligence techniques, simulation of procedures and tasks that the employee performs frequently, and the avoidance of routine tasks.
The project includes a number of initiatives, including automating the updating of vulnerabilities in security servers; automating the process of monitoring the storage service for “Rammas” data and automating the process of requesting work permits; automation of a GIS monitoring system; automation of the procedures for bank guarantees (bank offers); And automating information security processes to scan the scope of the authority.
asset management system
The application controls the performance of key equipment at the Jebel Ali Energy Production and Water Desalination Complex, based on artificial intelligence and a cloud platform. The Power Distribution Assets Importance Rating System relies on artificial intelligence to digitize the power distribution asset criticality rating for 34,000 transmission stations.
The application of automatic restoration of the electricity supply also works to automatically locate the technical fault, isolate the affected network sections, reconfigure the network and restore the electricity supply automatically and without human intervention.
intelligent control
The intelligent gas turbine control system combines thermodynamic sciences, “digital twinning” technologies, “artificial intelligence” and “machine learning” to self-manage gas turbines at the M-Station in Jebel Ali, which is the largest power generation and water desalination plant in the country. The system contributes to increasing the efficiency of the turbines and increasing their production capacity, in addition to reducing fuel consumption and reducing harmful emissions.
Proof
The authority participated in the launch of the “Artificial Intelligence Procurement Management Guide” in collaboration with the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center of the World Economic Forum and the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center of the country, with the aim of providing advanced mechanisms for public procurement in the field of artificial intelligence technologies .
smart controller
DEWA and Siemens have started a project to develop the smart controller application for the power plant “Power Block” as a larger scale prototype. The application relies solely on artificial intelligence techniques and modern thermodynamic sciences.
unidirectional data system
DEWA obtained an international patent certificate for a unidirectional data system that aims to ensure the secure transmission of data from power generation and water desalination plants to a common platform, to provide decision makers with a knowledge base that enables them to access data in real time via smart devices.
smart stations
The smart station system is a smart central information system that automatically collects real-time data from power and water production plant control systems in a 100% secure way through a one-way data system. The system provides a clear and comprehensive overview of the state of operations and equipment, enabling precise analysis and quick and critical decision-making to improve performance and prevent injuries.
optimization of the operating system
An operational improvement and strategic planning system is used to manage the performance of operational processes, which was developed using data science to improve the performance of the power generation units and thus improve efficiency. The simulation and training center works to improve the skills of engineers and technicians in the agency by experiencing real-world operating conditions and providing them with the skills that allow them to prepare to meet different circumstances.
