College of Johannesburg honors UWI’s Vice-Chancellor Sir Hilary Beckles
The College of Johannesburg conferred on Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The College of the West Indies (UWI), the diploma of Honorary Physician of Letters, at its Humanities convocation ceremony on Might 9, 2023.
It was an emotionally shifting ceremony of celebration as college college students from Soweto and elsewhere, and lecturers thanked Sir Hilary for his lifelong work within the development of world justice and the bending of scholarship within the service of democracy.
Professor Beckles was welcomed house to Africa as a son who continues to battle bravely for his individuals on each side of the Atlantic.
Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, the college orator famous, “has emerged an iconic chief of the worldwide reparations motion, a distinguished Vice-Chancellor within the enviornment of strategic planning for increased training, a United Nations official for sustainable growth advocacy and a world-renowned historian with honorary awards from many different universities. The mix of educational excellence, efficient advocacy, and insightful administration illustrates Sir Hilary’s mental versatility, ardour and dedication for justice, and visionary management.”
Sir Hilary in response thanked the college for its kindness and generosity, and famous how proud he feels to be a graduate of such a rare establishment.
He knowledgeable the gathering that he accepts the distinction on behalf of The UWI that has lengthy admired the College of Johannesburg for its mental management and pioneering analysis for African growth.
