Cadbury Sparks Outrage After Downsizing Dairy Milk Bars By 10% Amid Soaring Inflation

A ROW has exploded after Cadbury shrunk its Dairy Milk.

US parent company Mondelez blamed inflation for cutting a £2 bar from 200g to 180g.

Steve Dresser, chief of consulting firm Grocery Insight, tweeted a photo of the smaller items, posting, “Dear old Mondelez never lets us down with shrink.”

As Brits face the biggest cost of living pressure in 60 years, one customer wrote: “Legit no longer shocked.”

In 2012, a bar went from 49g to 45g, but the price remained at 59p, while a year earlier the 140g was reduced to 120g. In 2020, Mondelez shrank four other bars sold in multipacks.

It said it is the first reduction in dairy milk in a decade.

A Mondelez spokesperson claimed that rising production costs were the cause.

They said: “We face the same challenges that so many other food companies have already reported when it comes to significantly increased production costs – whether in ingredients, energy or packaging – and rising inflation.

“This means that our products are much more expensive to make.

“We understand that consumers also have to deal with rising costs, so we try to absorb the costs as much as possible.

“However, in this difficult environment, we have had to make the decision to slightly reduce the weight of our Cadbury Dairy Milk mid-sized bars for the first time since 2012, so that we can keep them competitive and guarantee the great taste and quality of our fans. to enjoy.”
