Buffy finally explains why Willow is the new killer

Warning: spoilers to Vampire Slayer # 2!

I BOOM! Studios’ new The vampire killer series, Willow serves as Buffy’s replacement in the Slayer role. So far, the story has been vague in terms of explaining the reasoning behind the two besties essentially shifting roles, but now there is an explanation as to why.

The first few problems developed as if Willow had always been the Killer, except for some vague hints. First in Vampire Slayer # 0 (as found in BOOM! Studios’ 25 years with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Special to Free Comic Book Day), a ragged Buffy tells a vampire therapist that her friends are further away than usual without explanation, especially Giles – who has barely said a word to her for a few months now. Moments later, the therapist attacks Buffy, claiming she is the Killer, but Buffy remains ignorant. Fast forward to the official first issue, where Willow and Giles have a short heart to heart saying she’s afraid she’s not ready for the current threat, and he promises, “we’ll get it all fixed soon. “

Nu, i Vampire Slayer # 2 by Sarah Gailey and Sonia Liao, readers finally get some clarity as another Slayer, Faith, strolls into town. Willow and Giles explain to Faith that they noticed in advance how Buffy had struggled with his Slayer duties, and slipped into a deep depression. The duo made a spell to ease Buffy’s trauma, but while the spell technically worked, it transferred all of Buffy’s trauma to Willow along with her Slayer powers. In addition, Buffy has no recollection of his time as Slayer. Now Willow is struggling with the same memories, while Buffy has lost the ability and knowledge to regain his role.

Now, all the previous subtle conversations and references make sense to know what Willow and Giles have done. It’s no wonder why Giles has been so evasive towards Buffy lately; it’s because he feels guilty. However, there are still some questions left in the air. Giles points out that he still does not understand exactly what went wrong with a spell that should have alleviated Buffy’s trauma.

Although Faith dismisses his concerns by saying that the spell went wrong because Slayers are by nature defined by their trauma, Giles’ concerns feel like a harbinger of an explanation that could turn into an important plot. It also needs to be explained whether Giles and Willow saw something specific that made them want to alleviate Buffy’s pain. The trauma is talked about in general terms regarding the pain of being a Slayer, and it could simply be just that, but it also raises the question of what the drop was that made Willow and Giles decide to help their friend so drastic. . This is especially true for Giles, who is not usually a fan of using magic unless absolutely necessary.

Whatever happened, things should soon change, ass Willow continues to struggle with his new role as Slayer, and Buffy remains vulnerable to attack in a world where she has been deprived of her title and abilities.
