Amtrak cancels non-stop Acela between New York and DC after problems with coronavirus to reduce demand

Amtrak cancels its Acela non-stop service between Washington D.C. and New York, due to the reduced demand due to the corona virus outbreak, the Washington Post reports.

“We are keeping a close eye on the coronavirus and are taking action based on guidelines from public health experts,” the company said in a statement.

The Acela service is suspended from 10 March to 26 May. The company says it anticipates other possible temporary adjustments to the schedule may also be required.

Changes to costs for existing reservations and new reservations for tickets purchased before April 30 have been waived. If a passenger books a new fare with a different fare, he may have to pay the difference.

In some situations, Amtrak carries out more sanitation every hour due to coronavirus problems, cleaning of rails, handles, door knobs and other surfaces. It has also made disinfectants and disinfectant wipes available to customers and employees at all trains and stations, the company says.
