9 new trailers you should check out this week

If the world wasn’t closed, I would recommend that you all watch out First cow, which just came out last weekend. It’s Kelly Reichardt’s latest movie, and despite its hilariously simple title, it’s a really great movie. It can be loosely described as a mugging movie about stealing a cow’s milk, but it’s also about friendship, capitalism and delicious fried oily cakes.
One of the really fun things the movie does is spoil the ending at the beginning of the movie. (I won’t spoil what that ending is here, even though it’s not technically a spoiler because it happens in five minutes.) I don’t remember seeing another movie doing exactly such a thing. TV shows, such as Breaking Bad, have often plagued climatic moments (which I never liked), but First cow telegraphs where it goes in a way that actually amplifies the tension. You know that a certain event is coming. The questions are when and how it will happen.
Since you’re probably not going to the cinema anytime soon, let me point out that some other excellent Reichardt movies are available on popular streaming platforms. Night movements, a thriller about eco-terrorism on Amazon, and Meek’s Cutoff, which is about a group of settlers lost in the desert on Amazon and Hulu.
Watch nine trailers this week below.
Soul
Pixar’s next film looks like it could be one of the best in the studio in a while. In the film, Jamie Foxx voices a jazz player who dies suddenly and whose soul then tries to return to Earth to stay alive. It will be released on June 19.
Beastie Boys Story
Somehow, Spike Jonze hasn’t made a job since Her, but he’s finally back with this Beastie Boys documentary on its way to Apple TV Plus. Jonze has been working with the band for a long time and this documentary seems like an appropriately sweet take on the trio’s rise and friendship. It arrives in some theaters on April 2 before it appears on Apple TV Plus on April 24.
Jungle Cruise
I’m pretty sure The Rock is attacking and tackling an attacking leopard at some point in this trailer. It’s ridiculous, but that’s the point – Jungle Cruise looks like a fun Disney adventure movie with big characters, big settings and big stakes. It will be released on July 24.
Black Widow
This is the final trailer for Marvel’s highly anticipated Black Widow solo movie. This latest trailer puts the character of Florence Pugh more in the spotlight and of course contains a lot of action. The film will be released on May 1.
Central park
Apple TV Plus has a new animated comedy from the creator of Bob’s Burgers. Give this a twist: it is also full of musical numbers. It premieres May 29.
Bad journey
Eric Andre worked with one of the makers of Jackass for this mashup between a road trip comedy and a ridiculous prank show. Who knows how well the link will work, but merging the strokes with a loose story seems an interesting idea. It will be released on April 17.
Home Before Dark
It’s hard for a children’s journalist show not to look a little cheesy, but Home Before Dark was inspired by the actual exploits of Hilde Lysiak who became famous for breaking news of a murder when she was nine. It’s coming to Apple TV Plus on April 3.
The third day
HBO has a mysterious new miniseries coming up that tells two separate stories of outsiders coming to an island where it turns out they can’t escape. Jude Law and Naomie Harris will star. It will debut on May 11.
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness
All I have to say is in a recent one CNN article about this documentary, his attempt to hire a hit man to kill a rival is not the first thing mentioned.
