7 horror movies are only coming to cinemas this summer!
Summer is officially underway and so is the scorching heat that comes with it. If you need an escape from the blazing sun using a cool, dark theater, luckily there is plenty of horror on the way. Both on the big screen and of course also at home.
But for now, let’s focus on this summer’s big screen horror movie.
Here are seven horror movies you can put on your radar, all of which will only be released in theaters until the summer officially kicks off.
Nix – July 22nd
As is the trend, the plot details remain intangible for author / director Jordan Peele’s third horror film. Daniel Kaluuya (Go out) joins Peele on the enigmatic film, in which the actors also include Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead,” Chaos) and Keke Palmer (“Scream”). While marketing teases aliens, the latest trailer promises that this is not what we think …
Body Body Body – 5 August
The latest A24 horror film revolves around a festival that was fatal to a group of wealthy 20-year-olds trapped inside a hurricane. It’s a biting social satire with body counting, starring Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Pete Davidson, Rachel Sennott, Myha’la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders and Lee Pace. Read our review here.
Animals – 19 August
This universal survival thriller finds Idris Elba’s character on a journey to South Africa, only for him and his two teenage daughters to be chased by a massive slingshot lion, who intends to prove that the savannah has only one apex predator. And yes, Elba beats the lion.
The invitation – August 26
Nathalie Emmanuel (“Game of Thrones”) plays the lead role as a woman invited by her newfound family to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, where she discovers a vampire conspiracy. The modern horror thriller gives a new twist to Dracula’s brides if this trailer is any indication.
Barbarian – 31 August

Bill Skarsgård and Georgina Campbell play the lead roles in this rental nightmare, as strangers double-booked in a home with an underground secret. There is much more to fear than an unexpected guest. Richard Brake and Justin Long also star.
Three thousand years of longing – 31 August
Idris Elba stars as a Djinn, offering a woman, played by Tilda Swinton, three wishes when she frees him. The mythology researcher surprises them both with his wish. Although not a direct thriller, you can expect a genre-bender with supernatural creatures from director George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road).
Salems Lot – 9 September
James Wan produces the new version of Stephen King’s vampire story Salems Lot for Warner Bros. and New Line, with Gary Dauberman (That, Nuns, Annabelle is coming home) attached to writing and directing the film. The plot sees a writer return to his hometown, only to find it under the influence of a bloodthirsty vampire.
