7 actors whose eating disorders worsened because of a role – newsdubai
Growing up in the limelight as the daughter of Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz has certainly taken its toll on Zoe Kravtiz. In the April/May 2015 cover issue of Complex with her, she revealed her struggles with having an unhappy relationship with food. “I had a really hard time when I was 16, 17, 18. I started with the eating disorder in high school… Just [a hard time] love myself,” she said.
She went on to explain how she played the role of an anorexic teenager in the 2014 drama The way inside caused her to restart her unhealthy eating pattern at the age of 25. After losing quite a bit of weight for the role, she was also not happy with her 90-pound figure. “That was fucked, man,” she said. “You could see my chest. I was just trying to lose more weight for the movie, but I couldn’t see: You’re there. Stop. It was scary.”
Kravitz also revealed that the recovery process was not easy and that she was hard on herself. She wasn’t happy about gaining back all the weight she’d lost, even though she’d lost her period and her thyroid had been thrown off, putting her immune system at risk. “I was like, ‘I don’t want to gain weight,’ as opposed to being like, ‘Okay, I’m a normal person,’” she said.
