Hitting high school can still turn up the heat among women – in ways many may not expect.

Not only is it the start of hot flashes during menopause – but the fire of passion burns brightly.

Thousands of women aged 45 to 60 were questioned about their feelings about intimacy in the bedroom … or elsewhere for that matter.

And instead of feeling that the flames of desire had long since been extinguished, more than a quarter said sex was “very important” when they entered middle age.

Not only that, it continued to matter as they neared their senior years. They were also more likely to have better sexual satisfaction with their partners.

Meanwhile, nearly half of those in the study said how important sex was during middle age, although the buzz faded after 60 years.

The responses of the 3,200 women interviewed about how their interest in sex was affected during menopause echoed those of Davina McCall this month.

Flirty signs that your date is crazy about you

Are you the kind of single guy who has a hard time telling if your date likes your jokes – or can’t wait to get to the exit?

Fortunately for you, researchers think they’ve identified the look a woman gives when she’s interested in a man.

They cracked the “perfect flirtatious face” used by women to show sexual interest.

The facial cues include a head turned to one side and tilted down slightly, a smile, and eyes facing the implied target, the study published in the Journal of Sex Research found.

And these expressions likely trigger associations with relationships and sex in male brains. Kansas University lead author Omri Gillath said, “Not only were we able to identify the phrases that represent flirting, but we were also able to reveal their function.”

The TV host, 52, rejected the notion that women’s sex lives are being ended by the change, insisting that she still wants to be ‘naughty’ and that women can still enjoy intimacy as they age.

She added, ‘People say,’ Oh, it’s all gone … menopause … you’re done ‘. It’s very important to say that people in their 50s have the time of their lives. ‘

Scientists say these types of studies are important for understanding women’s needs as they age.

Lead author Dr. Holly Thomas said, “Contrary to previous literature that reported that the importance of sex diminishes as women move into middle age, we found that sex remains very important for a quarter of women.”

From an ethnic perspective, black women were more likely to rate sex as important during middle age.

However, Chinese and Japanese women were more likely to say that it didn’t matter if intimacy became less important.

Other variables included women with symptoms of depression, who previously rated sex as less important to them.

The results of the University of Pittsburgh study are presented today at the North American Menopause Society’s virtual annual meeting.

Medical Director Dr. Stephanie Faubion said decreasing sexual desire has often been dismissed as a natural part of aging.

But she added, “Often times there are other treatable reasons, such as depression.”
