Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness is filled with amazing cameos and exciting action sequences, thus living up to the title. The MCU sequel is directed by Sam Raimi and is about Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, as he handles a threat from the Multiverse, which means that it is inevitable that the Master of the Mystic Arts will come to explore other realities. Marketing for the film confirmed that a universe that Strange ends up in has a version of the Illuminati, a secret group made up of several of the world’s most powerful heroes.

In the film, the Illuminati is from Earth-838, and its members are Charles Xavier, Maria Rambeau as Captain Marvel, Captain Carter, Black Bolt, Baron Mordo and John Krasinski’s Reed Richards. Krasinski has long been the subject of rumors of being cast as the leader of the Fantastic Four, and now the sequel made it a reality.
However, Krasinski’s time in the Marvel universe was short-lived after being killed by Wanda Maximoff in the sequel. Still, fans are hoping the actor would return in a future MCU project.
Now, while the sequel is breaking ticket records, the film’s lead author has opened up about Krasinski’s inclusion.

Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness lead author Michael Waldron sat down with Variety to talk about John Krasinski’s surprising performance as Reed Richards.
When asked if he was involved in the casting of the actor in the sequel, Waldron confirmed that he had no part in it, but the Marvel writer pointed out that he “worked really closely” with Krasinski in bringing Reed Richards to life:
“I’m not involved in the casting, but as with all these artists, I worked really closely with him to bring that character to life with him and Sam. And especially on it, because it was the one character who had no real precedent ever in MCU, at least. Finding out how we want this guy to be – that was a lot of fun. The special character is definitely one of my favorite cartoon characters. “
While fans are wondering if Krasinski will return as Reed Richards in the MCUs Fantastic four movies, Waldron avoided the query by saying so “it’s a question for someone else.”

In a separate interview with Gizmodo, Waldron was asked how Illuminati members would play into the future of MCU. That Loki writer shared it “there are definitely consequences” while it teases that fans will eventually “Find out:”
io9: “So by making these decisions, how much discussion was there about how these people would (or could) play into the future of MCU?”
Waldron: “Yes. I mean, there are definitely consequences, questions, it’s all there. They existed as these heroes in at least one universe. What does it mean now to move on? We’ll probably find out. But it all felt like a really exciting opportunity and things to tease in each case. “
John Krasinski’s unknown but significant Marvel future
Although Michael Waldron worked closely with John Krasinski to bring Reed Richards to life, it is safe to assume that Multiverse of madness writer has no idea what’s next for the actor.
Writing lines for Reed Richards is crucial given that the character has no history (yet) in the MCU, which means Waldron has some form of freedom. However, the dialogue about the intrusion and that he has children could serve as a possible teasing of what lies ahead for both the franchise as a whole and the upcoming Fantastic four movie.

Despite this, it remains to be seen whether Krasinksi will actually return as Reed Richards from Earth-616, also known as the main MCU. If he makes a comeback, there’s a chance it could be in the film’s director’s chair, especially now that Spider-Man: No Way Home Director Jon Watts has left the project. It is also likely that he could perform double duty and portray Reed in the film.
Whether Krasinski will return or not, the actor’s involvement and willingness to portray Reed Richards in Multiverse of madness is already a positive step that can set a precedent.
