London Stadium hosts are facing potential turmoil if the Premier League season lasts longer than expected – but West Ham believes they will not become homeless or pay a heavy bill.

There will be several events taking place at the 66,000-seat stadium this summer, including baseball, athletics and music concerts, but the club insists they take precedence over all.

Clause 7 in their contract with landlords E20 indicates how West Ham has ‘Overriding Priority Principle’ and their agreement means they have priority until the day after 2019-20 ends.

Major League Baseball will return to London Stadium on June 13 and 14, but the currently suspended Premier League campaign may continue at that time.

West Ham vice chairman Karren Brady caused a stir last week when she proposed in a column for The Sun newspaper to declare the season ‘void’.

Brady’s comments were particularly interesting given the way the club’s recent financial accounts outlined their real fear of demotion, describing survival as an “absolute necessity.” They said leaving the Premier League would have “serious financial consequences.”

It remains to be seen when the football season will resume and how it will affect MLB’s two-game series or the Athletics Anniversary games, scheduled for July 4 and 5.

Part of the problem is that it takes about two weeks to transform the stadium from football mode.

But West Ham insists this won’t be a problem for them and they won’t be forced to pay tens of millions if they stay their welcome too long, as reported Monday.

A club spokesman, who pays £ 2.5 million a year in rent, said: ‘If the football season continues after May, our matches will continue as planned at the stadium.

E20 has confirmed that it is mandatory not to schedule events during the football season that could affect the pitch. Football season is defined as ending on the date that falls one day after the last competitive game we play in an event year.

“For the time being, we have no confirmation when deferred games will be played, but if and when they are rescheduled they will be played at London Stadium, home of West Ham United.”

A London Legacy Development Corporation spokesperson added, “These are unprecedented circumstances and we will be working closely with the club in the coming weeks to resolve the issues. The situation is very fluid, so like many other clubs with summer event programs, it is too early to give exact details about future arrangements. ‘
