Recently footage from the 2018 fatal shooting that took place at a North Carolina Walmart involving DaBaby was released by Rolling stones, which seemed to question his claim of self-defense in the situation. Now, DaBaby’s legal team is commenting on the footage, saying it supports his claim of self-defense.
DaBaby’s attorneys Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg spoke TMZ about the footage and said prosecutors had already seen the footage back in 2018 and they came to the conclusion that DaBaby was acting in self-defense in the situation, which resulted in him not being prosecuted for murder.
They told the site,
“Witnesses were interviewed and confirmed Mr Kirk’s statement. The entire surveillance video was watched and determined to confirm Mr Kirk’s statement … Mr Kirk was protecting himself and his family at the time of the shooting.”
TMZ reports that the footage was also viewed by a judge in Mecklenburg County in connection with a misdemeanor charge for not having the proper permits for his gun.
As previously reported, DaBaby claims at the time of the incident that Jaylin Douglas and Henry Craig followed him around the store and allegedly flashed a gun at him, prompting him to react in self-defense. In the end, DaBaby was not charged with the shooting, but he received a charge of carrying a concealed weapon without permission, and that charge was later dropped in 2019. He also received unsupervised suspended sentences of 12 months and a suspended 30-day jail term.
After the clip from the incident recently surfaced, DaBaby responded to the situation by sharing the Tyrese crying meme, saying, “No disrespect to my boy Tyrese, but to hell. What more do you want from meeee?”
