The release date of the Roller Champions has been officially revealed

As a sports team coming from nowhere to beat a console, Ubisoft has announced that their fast sports mash-up Roller Champions launched out of beta and in everyone’s hands from May 25th. In just one week, players on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 can download the title and play it for free. It even supports crossover progression and crossover games (except custom battles) for anyone who juggles multiple pieces of hardware.

Roller Championswith its unique blend of sports, seems to be Ubisoft’s attempt to capture some of the energy around Rocket League. Instead of super-powerful battle cars, players take control of skaters and score points by completing laps and landing balls in hangers around the arena. Some role derby and some jai alai, the game also has the modern moods seen in previous Ubisoft sports games Equestrian Republic.

Of course since Roller Champions is a free game in 2022, there are plenty of premium cosmetic options. There is a shop in the game and a seasonal “roll pass” filled with items that will be spread over a free and premium level. The first season of cosmetics (which will be exclusive for said season) will also be a month long. Users can also invite their friends to play the game, and both will be rewarded for jumping in. And while it first hits PS4, Xbox One and PC, the title will also find its way to Nintendo Switch, Stadia, Amazon Luna, and mobile platforms sometime in the future.

The debut of Roller Champions may have flown under the radar for some, but it confirms one earlier leaked release date for the sports game, which has been a long time coming since its unveiling at E3 2019. It had previously missed its last release window in the early months of 2022, but May and June appear to be relatively free of heavy hitters, so Ubisoft’s latest could find a significant audience if its sporting activities can fulfill its action-packed promise.
