St Lucia Authorities to pay tens of millions in backpay to public servants


The St. Lucia authorities Wednesday stated it should disburse an estimated EC$11.5 million (One EC greenback=US$0.37 cents) in excellent arrears to public servants.

A press release from the Workplace of the Prime Minister stated that the negotiations between the umbrella Commerce Union Federation [TUF] and the Authorities Negotiating Staff [GNT] had resulted in two collective agreements being reached for the durations 2016 – 2019 and 2019 – 2022 respectively.

“These agreements included wage and wage will increase,” the assertion stated, noting that though the conclusion of the negotiations predates the current administration and, regardless of the worldwide financial challenges and inflationary pressures on authorities income, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre is “glad to oblige and determined to honor the 2 collective agreements.

“The disbursement of excellent back-pay for the interval 2019 – 2022 which totals EC$11.5 million for each lively and non-active public servants is scheduled to begin on March 23, 2023.

“Furthermore, public servants at present profit from a one per cent wage and wage enhance which took impact in April 2022. And, in December 2022, lively and non-active public servants collectively acquired EC$6.8 million in again pay from the federal government,” the assertion added.

The assertion stated that the federal government stays dedicated to working with the TUF to foster “mutually respectful industrial relations to make sure stability and promote productiveness within the public service”.
