EXCLUSIVE: Premier League Fans Forced To Pay Even More To Watch Their Team! Sky Sports and BT Sport to unveil new pay-per-view service to show additional top matches as crowds are still kept away from stadiums
- The premier UK broadcasters of the Premier League are about to unveil a new pay-per-view service
- An additional selection of top games will be shown live, but at an additional cost
- The live games are not part of the current Sky or BT subscription packages
- Premier League got excited about giving away products for free in lockdown
- A number of games were shown free-to-air on Pick TV, Amazon and the BBC
- But broadcasters didn’t want to pay anymore, so PPV service is the result
The Premier League’s main UK broadcasters are announcing plans to launch a new pay-per-view service, asking gamblers to pay more money to watch matches.
In a strategy likely to infuriate viewers, Sky Sports and BT Sport will unveil a new service to show an extra layer of matches not featured on the designated television show, but at an additional cost to their general subscription cost.
Since football returned in June, all matches have been televised via Sky, BT, BBC and Amazon as part of each broadcaster’s overall service.
Sky Sports and BT Sport are ready to announce pay-per-view service for Premier League matches that are not part of their usual coverage schedules
A number of Premier League matches have been shown free-to-air in lockdown, but the league has gotten excited about giving away its product for free in the UK
Fans left out during the Covid-19 pandemic are likely upset that they now have to pay more to see their team on TV
But the Premier League has become annoyed by the fact that they are essentially giving away their product for free since the lockdown.
Plus, broadcasters don’t want to pay extra for the rights to more games – the new pay-per-view service is a product of those concerns.
Premier League broadcasters should assist with the pay-per-view plans.
But the move could run the risk of angering customers who already pay significant subscription fees every month.

When the Premier League rebooted after the lockdown in June, there was government pressure to show each of the remaining 92 games live on television.
Sky made 25 of their remaining matches available to broadcast for free on Pick TV, while four were shown by the BBC. All of Amazon’s matches were also available for free.
When the new season got underway in September, all 28 games were broadcast live that month instead of the usual 17 with staggered start times over the weekend.
Only one of these – Leicester City vs Burnley – was made free-to-air and broadcast on BBC One.
Last weekend’s round of play was also all shown live, either on Sky or BT Sport, but during the two-week international hiatus, plans were likely to shift.
