Some burnout manifests itself physically with bowel and gastro-related illnesses or an increase in sleep problems.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS YOU NEED ON A MENTAL HEALTH DAY?
1 – Think negatively or pessimistically, or personalize the negativity, comments, or feedback of others
2 – Feeling frustrated, short-tempered, stressed, intolerant or depressed
3 – Social withdrawal
4 – Increasing frequency of physical problems including gut and stomach related conditions, headaches, skin conditions and compromised immune system
5 – Sleep problems, including problems sleeping or waking up during the night
“A day away from work can help create and reset perspective,” says Read. However, ongoing strategies are needed to ensure a longer-lasting and more sustainable sense of well-being.

There’s no need to provide specific details about mental health issues if they don’t directly affect your job, but it’s helpful to share that you’re feeling overwhelmed or struggling, and address this by taking a day (or longer) off to be present for your well-being is important, ”says Read.
Simple, direct communication is best when talking to your boss.
Research shows that two thirds of all Australians believe that workplace factors have negatively impacted their mental health.
More than half of the respondents said they did not include mental health days when needed.
