Heading into the season, we anticipated Melvin Gordon to be the apparent backup ought to one thing occur to Javonte Williams, however circumstances in Denver could have already modified in Week 4. As a result of when Williams left Sunday’s recreation towards the Raiders with a knee damage, Mike Boone was given the primary alternative for the Broncos.
That’s as a result of Gordon’s fumble points resurfaced Sunday, resulting in a defensive landing for the Raiders. Boone in the end ended up with simply three carries for 20 yards, however he nonetheless figures to be some of the coveted gamers on the waiver wire heading into Week 5, given Williams’ damage and Gordon’s struggles.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t essentially imply I feel Boone would be the starter for the Broncos. Gordon was penalized for his fumbles and is probably going on a reasonably brief leash, however it’s important to consider the Broncos will give him the primary crack at a starring position if Williams has to overlook time, given how a lot leash they’ve given him up to now. And it seems like there’s an actual likelihood that Williams must miss a while – we received’t know on Sunday afternoon, however the truth that he was wheeled to the locker room and dominated out virtually instantly is definite not a superb signal.
Though not a long-term damage, the Broncos play the Colts on Thursday in Week 5 – who could possibly be lacking Jonathan Taylor after he left Sunday’s recreation together with his personal ankle damage. It appears fairly probably that Gordon and Boone will each get expanded roles in Week 5, and whereas Gordon is taken just about in all places (92%), Boone is obtainable just about in all places. And he figures to see double-digit touches in a timeshare with Gordon, no less than — and it’s no less than doable he stays the highest choice if Gordon has actually price himself together with his fumbles.
Whether or not meaning Boone ought to be the highest choice on waivers relies upon each on what we hear about Williams’ long-term standing, plus what the Broncos say in regards to the Gordon/Boone cut up. If Nyheim Hines (75% listed) is obtainable in your league, I’d take him over Boone, however I’d most likely prioritize Boone over both Deon Jackson or Phillip Lindsay, the Colts’ different RB choices to assist exchange Taylor.
Right here’s who else we’ll be chasing on the waiver wire in Week 5.
