Draymond Green tears up Kendrick Perkins after the Warriors advanced to the West Finals
Sometimes all Draymond Green needs is a spark to get him started.
Ahead of the Warriors’ 110-96 series victory over the Memphis Grizzlies at the Chase Center on Friday night, without anyone else’s knowledge, this spark was delivered by none other than ESPN NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins.
After the Warriors eliminated the Grizzlies and advanced to their sixth Western Conference finals in eight years, Green embarked on a scuffle against the Perkins.
“Something came to my phone earlier,” Green told reporters. “Some guy who says I’m afraid to shoot basketball. Afraid and me in the same sentence is brutal. But you have a big troll on TV who talks about what Draymond says is not the gospel. It is gospel. What I say is the gospel. When you say it several times in several different segments, you have to believe that what I say is the gospel. So you have to get out and shut up to some guys sometimes. When you got people talking out of their necks “Anyone can handle the pass Draymond makes.” That’s just stupid.
“But it’s people being hired to talk on TV about our game.” Anyone could handle it. “You make that episode. We would love to see it. By the way, I played against the guy. I’m talking about Kendrick Perkins for them. of you who do not know. I never smoked. As the Memphis Grizzlies’ towels say, I did not smoke. ‘Anyone could handle it.’ “You could not do that, so good luck. You just had to get out and shut people up sometimes. It was a lot of fun to do.”
Shortly after Green’s comments were passed on to the public via Twitter, Perkins posted a video response:
How did all this start? During Friday morning’s episode of “First Take,” Perkins said this about Green:
“Can anyone actually tell Draymond Green that it’s OK to look at the basket and actually shoot a shot?” Perkins told hosts Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim. “I mean because he’s scared. I mean, I’m sitting up here watching all the revenue. He’s not even looking at the basket.”
“He’s scared to take the shot right now. So some of the assists he gets for Steph Curry, Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson, I could go out there and get the same assists. They open wide. It’s nothing but a pass. So do not let Draymond Green sit up here and fool you, as if everything that comes out of his mouth is the gospel. “
Draymond later responded by posting an Instagram story directed at Perkins.
In the first five games of the series, Green took a total of 17 shots, making 10 of them, good for a total of 24 points. But in the clincher Friday night, the four-time NBA All-Star went 6-of-14 from the field and finished with 14 points, while also snatching 15 rebounds and handing out eight assists. He was a plus-19.

Green and Perkins are two of the loudest voices in the NBA, and this certainly does not end with their back and forth Friday night. With the Warriors advancing to the West Finals, Perkins is likely to have more to say about Green over the next two weeks.
