FIGHT OF FIVE FINGERS frontman Ivan Moody injured his right eye after accidentally getting it exposed to a laser beam during the band’s performance on Thursday (May 19) at. Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Late Thursday night, Moody took to his Instagram to share a video explaining what happened. He said in part (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “During the set I got overheated and I went back and I fainted … I grabbed Charlie‘s [Engen, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH drummer] set. And the heat – it was exhausting. Charlie almost too fainted. And I reached out for a pelvis, and I felt like I was going under. And then I ran back. And I was okay. Mine [guys] helped me. And when I get back on stage, one of the lasers kicked backwards, for I basically stumbled over it, and it shot me in the eye. And these things are like … they basically have the power of a smaller supernova; they are really bad. If you set your phone up to one of them, it will actually darken your screen.

“So at least I’m gonna have to go back [home] to [Las] Vegas and I’re going to a real ophthalmologist, “he continued.” And hopefully it’s okay. I can not see out of it right now. It’s like, have you ever stared at the sun or a light bulb and you get the green light – it darkens it. Imagine that a thousand times. They thought my retina was separated; so bad it was.

“So when I go to Europe here in a couple of weeks, you might all see me with a damn patch on my eye,” he said, referring to the fact that FIVE FINGER is scheduled to launch its European tour on June 12 in Austria Nova Rock festival. “Go on. Make it fun. Do not care. But that’s what it is. I had fun. Like I said, I’m really sorry. I felt exhausted. [during the Welcome To Rockville set] Weight of moisture. 85 percent humidity in 90 degree weather, it takes a toll. And I saw many of you fall down. And when I went to the emergency room, there were a lot of you out there. “
