Cult Of Khonshu & 9 other important cults from the entire Marvel universe
What defines a cult? It is usually an organization or group of people united by an ideology that may seem out of place with the world they live in. There is an obsessive and often violent element in their worship of this cult, and there may be religious implications. , twisted into the structure of what they believe.
Across the Marvel universe, there are a lot of important cults, though none of them have actually managed to accomplish anything decent. They are usually being beaten by the heroes of the day, and although most of these groups have found their home in the comics, there is nothing to say that they will not appear on screen in the future.
The hand
Some of Daredevil’s most personal battles have involved The Hand. The group has a mysterious background where these ninjas promise their entire existence to the cult. The Hand has apparently mastered death and has been known to revive its most influential members.
The group has a uniform, usually red or black clothes, that has been used to denote rank. Not only are they trained in martial arts and a series of dark exercises, but they are also destined to eventually give up their lives for the cause. There is ultimately no escape The Hand, and even the Man Without Fear has been wrapped in his web of deception.
Cult of Khonshu
The cult of Khonshu was created to worship the Egyptian moon god. While the deity has already blessed Marc Spector with incredible gifts as the lunar knight, his followers seem to feel that they too will be given some kind of incredible abilities.
It makes sense in the context of the Marvel universe that a cult like this could exist, given that Khonshu has a very real impact on the mortal world. However, the cult was corrupted by Khonshus’ true beliefs, with Moon Knight himself fighting on the wrong side of their conflicts.
Brotherhood of mutants
The Brotherhood of Mutants, or sometimes the Evil Mutants, is a cult created with Mutantkind’s improvement in mind. Their ideology is one that essentially encourages human extinction so that their superior race can succeed. It is a group that was originally designed to push back against the growing hatred of their people.
It has evolved into a terrorist group that will not stop at anything to achieve its goals, even fighting against other mutants in their occupation of dominance. The cult continues to change, and with Magneto and other key members going side by side with the X-Men, the Brotherhood is a shadow of what it once was.
The Church of the New Darkness
Fuck is another proven deity who within the Marvel universe may be able to provide quite an attractive offer to powerless civilians. As the God of the Symbiots, he was already worshiped by some of his own kind. But those who wanted to bind themselves to King In Black created a cult in his name.
The Church of New Darkness or Cult of Knull helped pave the way for the king’s attack on Earth. They willingly gave up their bodies as hosts for the wave of symbiotes, though many were manipulated to their certain death. The thirst for power and obsession with the rising darkness beat even the strong-willed.
Hellfire Cult
Hellfire Club is already a secretive organization created to influence both Mutant and the humanity behind the scenes. Their operations serve only their own interests, though the occupation of the group is not the same as it is with Hellfire Cult.
This is a more extreme section of the club that is keen on its own forms of control. They all wear extremely uncomfortable masks to protect themselves from certain types of psychic attacks and can be considered a terrorist group. They do not discriminate whether they target them with or without powers.
The Church of Mankind
The Church of Humanity is one of many anti-mutant cults that have brought a religious aspect to their ideology. They feel it is their duty to wipe out the so-called mutant foam in order to cleanse the Earth and cleanse it. It is not unlike another cult that will soon be discussed.
The worship of the Church drives them in their duties as they do everything in the name of their God. Of course, this disgusting group is in fact just acting out of their own prejudices and is actually blasphemous in their actions. They even crucify some of the X-Men in a horrible tale.
Cult of the negative zone
The Cult of the Negative Zone is a very specific group whose purpose is to worship those who live on the site commonly found in Fantastic Four comics. The cult believes that when people die, they live on in the negative zone, even if that is not true in the Marvel universe.
Regardless of their worship, their worship has forced them into the endless quest to get to the negative zone and perhaps even serve people like Annihilus, who have the power to truly wipe out the Earth itself. Some have therefore found themselves trapped in this cosmic dimension, unable to return and realize their faults too late.
Hydra
By definition, Hydra is a cult. They all look to their established hierarchy and follow their terrible ideology until their dying breath. They were founded together with the Nazis, but have evolved and continued to evolve, with some areas of Hydra even paying homage to some sort of monster god.
Hydra has been shown in many forms and the group continues to try to indoctrinate the weak-minded. While some see it as a paycheck and a way of working for another criminal organization, others are engaged in the terror case. At their most powerful, the Hydra Empire really enjoyed the cult-like followers who helped maintain the authoritarian regime.
Dark holders
There have been so many powerful magical creatures in Marvel Comics that exploited Darkhold that a cult has begun to form around the legendary Dark Book. The Darkhold itself has managed to corrupt thousands with its secrets.
Of course, while people like Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch will not fall victim to this kind of cult, there are those who seek to use Darkhold for their own use, who have been known to frolic in the dark arts. As cults go, this is as traditional as they come in terms of blood sacrifices and spooky robes.
Cleaners
Like the Church of Humanity, there is a religious nature in Purifiers’ motives for liberating the world from mutants. However, they have gone even further in their quest, where their organization draws in those who feel they have been wronged by the X-Gene.
Of all the mutant hate groups, they could have had the greatest success in achieving their mission. In some variants, they have even managed to take control of the streets and have been partly responsible for futures that see a gloomy and desolate world of mutants.
