Cricket star Sir Ian Bothman’s 19-year-old granddaughter has revealed she’s competing in a regional beauty queen contest and hopes to make it to the national Miss England competition next year.
Imani-Jayne, a student at Nottingham Trent University, plans to beat the judges in the competition’s Yorkshire heats and says she has the full support of her famous grandfather.
The student, who lives in Richmond, North Yorkshire, told me The mirror: ‘I wasn’t so sure, but Mommy said,’ Go for it ‘.

Imani-Jayne said her family were all very helpful, but she initially decided to go ahead with the competition because her mother told her to ‘go for it’. (Pictured: Imani-Jayne earlier this year)
The teenager is Sir Ian Botham’s only granddaughter (pictured) and she says that while he doesn’t know ‘the full extent’ of her involvement in the competition, she knows he will ‘fully support me’.
‘Grandpa doesn’t quite know yet, but he has always been there for me and he will support me all the time.
He knows something is going on, but not the full extent of what is happening. I’ll tell him of course. ‘
The young woman is one of five children, has four brothers, and is Sir Ian’s only granddaughter, which she says is a good thing because, she admits, “I do get a little spoiled.”

While Sir Ian Botham has admitted that due to his cricket career, he wasn’t always around for his kids when they were growing up, his wife says he would win ‘grandfather of the year’ every year. (Pictured, Imani-Jayne)
During an interview earlier this year, his wife, Kath, said he would be crowned ‘grandfather of the year’ every year, but Botham – nicknamed Beefy by his friends – has previously admitted that his cricket career meant he wasn’t around that much to watch his own children grow up.
In addition to studying and competing in the regional heats, Imani-Jayne is involved with her grandfather’s Beefy’s Charity Foundation, which helps fund projects related to chronic diseases and other challenges that young people face.
She has participated in all the walks the charity has organized, except one in Sri Lanka, as well as the golf days – in which the whole family participates.

Due to limitations of the coronavirus, participants in this year’s Miss England heats – like the one Imani-Jayne is competing in in Yorkshire – had to record a video of themselves on their phones wearing cocktail dresses.
The winners of the regional rounds are then nominated for the national competition that takes place in April.
After graduation, Imani plans to move to London to pursue a career in fashion or marketing, but for now she looks forward to hopefully spending time with her family over Christmas and enjoying her grandfather’s wine. drink, she says.
