CNBC’s Salinas on swimming in enterprise information tales

UNC-Chapel Hill journalism professor Andy Bechtel spoke with CNBC.com deputy enterprise editor Sara Salinas about her job.

Q. Describe your job at CNBC. What’s your typical day like?

A. As deputy editor for our web site’s Enterprise and Firm Information crew, I spend all day swimming in tales about transportation, media, leisure, retail and eating places. I work with a crew of 11 beat reporters, strategizing round what we must always cowl, once we ought to cowl it and the way.

My typical day begins earlier than the inventory markets open, studying in on information and modifying and publishing some fast hit items to leap begin the day for the crew. By mid-morning, I’ll have caught up with reporters to listen to about what’s on their plates for the day or past, plan broader protection for ongoing storylines, and schedule out the always-frenzied earnings report season.

Even the best-scheduled days can get derailed by a breaking information story, however I chip away at edits on longer function tales as I’m in a position and wrap up my day someday after the markets shut when it looks like we’re safely past the 4 p.m. hour information dump.
