Brathwaite rues ‘unhealthy sport’, urges WI to study from defeat

Captain Kraigg Brathwaite has rued West Indies’ lack of resolve within the Adelaide second Take a look at however mentioned he believed the chastening consequence was a studying curve, which might serve the facet properly in vital contests subsequent yr.

West Indies slumped to a 419-run defeat, half-hour earlier than lunch on the penultimate day right here Sunday, the consequence marking their heaviest-ever loss in Take a look at historical past by runs.

“Clearly [the] pink ball is all the time completely different – beneath lights is all the time powerful and at occasions a little bit more durable,” Brathwaite informed a media convention afterwards.

“[We needed] a little bit higher judgement at occasions. But it surely occurs. Unhealthy days occur and unhealthy video games [happen], and clearly this was a foul sport for positive, for us.

“But it surely’s not the top of the world. We’ve got a variety of Take a look at cricket to play subsequent yr so we’ve to look forward.”

West Indies misplaced the opening Take a look at in Perth by 164 runs final week, their first Take a look at defeat of the yr following sequence triumphs over England and Bangladesh, once they went unbeaten.

And whereas they took the opening Take a look at in opposition to Australia deep into the ultimate day earlier than succumbing, the Caribbean facet confirmed little of that dedication within the day-night affair in Adelaide.

Brathwaite, nevertheless, praised his facet and mentioned they retained his full help going ahead.

“In a yr, you wish to win each sport – you don’t wish to lose – however I feel dropping is part of the sport,” he defined.

“Clearly this loss was a bit disappointing in how we didn’t present the combat [required]. I used to be happy with the primary Take a look at in Perth regardless of it was a loss. We noticed guys preventing, and to hold a robust Australia staff into the final day was a good effort.

“I nonetheless suppose it was a very good yr for us – an excellent yr. Clearly dropping one sequence in opposition to the primary staff on this planet shouldn’t be a foul effort.

“As I mentioned, it’s vital to study from this expertise. We’ve got South Africa subsequent yr in March after Zimbabwe and we all know there are form of comparable situations in South Africa so it is necessary we present that have.

“You undergo sure issues and it’s important you study from them. However I’m 100 per cent behind this staff. I feel it’s a very good group [but] you possibly can’t all the time win.”

Brathwaite was one in all solely 4 gamers with earlier Take a look at expertise in Australia and that dearth of data confirmed within the sequence consequence.

There have been three debutants within the sequence – Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Devon Thomas and Marquino Mindley – whereas Anderson Phillip was enjoying solely his second Take a look at.

Brathwaite mentioned the way in which Australia went about their enterprise within the sequence had served as a blueprint for his inexperienced unit, particularly with West Indies scheduled to return Down Below in simply over a yr.

“[For] a variety of the blokes, this was their first time to Australia so I feel the expertise would assist, each as batsmen and as bowlers,” Brathwaite identified.

“After which seeing how Australia would’ve performed, seeing how their batsmen would’ve began their innings – we will study from that beginning.

“After which how their bowlers bowled all through – all through a spell, all through [a whole day] – as a result of at occasions in Perth they bowled for a complete day however then you definately see the areas they bowled.

“It’s stuff like that you just’ve obtained to study from and it’s vital whenever you come [back to Australia] that you just don’t essentially make the identical errors.

“Australia will all the time be a robust staff at house however the important thing with experiences is to study from them so it’s vital we present that have after we come again.”
