Barbara Kogan, the infamous ‘Black Widow’ of New York City, was paroled after 12 years in prison for ordering a hitman to murder her estranged millionaire husband.
Barbara, now 77, got up to collect $ 4.3 million in life insurance cash on the death of her husband, George Kogan, who served her divorce papers the year before and saw victories in court.
George, 49, whose family owned a department store chain in Puerto Rico, was shot three times by a hitman hired by Barbara in October 1990.
His girlfriend Mary-Louise Hawkins, then 29, found him lying on the sidewalk in a pool of blood outside their apartment on East 69th Street, Upper East Side. They had met when she was hired by the Kogans in 1988 as a publicist for their new antique store.

Barbara fled to Puerto Rico for 20 years, during which she avoided arrest and spent her husband’s millions.
Barbara, who spent $ 100,000 a year on clothing, jewelry, and salon trips and was dubbed ‘Black Widow’ for the tailored funeral clothes she wore in court, was only arrested for her involvement in 2008.
She was sentenced to 36 years in prison and told that she had to serve at least 12 years in 2010 after being found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and grand theft.
But now, The New York Post reports that Barbara was released from prison after receiving parole in October.
Barbara will be supervised by the New York County parole division. She reported there within a day of her release, a correctional officer told The Post.
While Barbara enjoyed her first taste of freedom, Mary-Louis Hawkins said her release was shocked.
“I’m disgusted, I really am,” Hawkins said.

Prior to her release, Hawkins said, who spoke on the condition that her new identity and whereabouts would not be released. The New York Post: ‘She’s an animal. Barbara is extremely good at manipulating people, even probation officers. ‘
Kogan had a parole hearing on July 7 in which she claimed she was shocked to learn that her husband had been shot – contradicting her 2010 plea to conspiracy to commit murder and grand theft.
She added that she never had any designs for his $ 4 million life insurance policy.
“Actually, I was so stunned when he was killed,” Kogan told two parole board members via video link from the Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, New York.

‘I didn’t even know – I didn’t think it was me. I thought, “What’s going on here?” ‘She added.
Hawkins, who is now married and has moved abroad, has also testified against Kogan’s divorce attorney, Manuel Martinez, who was convicted of settling the $ 40,000 hit.
After he was shot, George, returning from a trip to the supermarket, is said to have said to his doorman, “Go get Mary-Louise, I’m dying.” According to witnesses, Hawkins shouted, “It’s the woman.”
Hawkins said of her ex-boyfriend: “He slept in the guest bedroom. George told me Barbara called him fat, and said he disgusted her. When I met him he was so miserable that he slowly killed himself by eating. ‘
George, who had two sons with Barbara, is said to have been ‘surprised’ when he ‘realized that Hawkins was washing her own hair’ after his wife’s daily visits to a hairstylist.
Hawkins said, “My main goal was to keep her away from her sons because she will force them and try to make them feel sorry for her.”
Scott Kogan, then 43, said during his mother’s 2010 conviction: “ For nearly twenty years, I have been suppressing strong suspicious thoughts while anxiously focusing elsewhere. I loved them both. ‘
George’s cousin Taryn Kogan said at the time, “For twenty years I thought of this day when I could meet Barbara Kogan and call her a murderer, a villain — to your face. But it still won’t bring my uncle back. Your Honor, please, this is a licensed assassin. ‘
Kogan, now 77, (pictured) will be paroled next month after spending just 12 years behind bars following the death of her husband George in 1990 after being shot three times by a hitman. In a victim-impact letter presented to the parole hearing seen by The Post, Hawkins condemned the decision to release Kogan, who she says had been waging a war of intimidation against her since George’s death.
She managed to get my parents’ secret phone number and occasionally called them in the middle of the night to surprise them – to remind them once again that she wanted the money and valuables she thought George had left behind , ‘she said.
“Just as I started to breathe, thinking I was finally rid of her, Barbara or one of her hirlings called out unexpectedly with more than a hint of malice.”
Hawkins added that the cruelty of George’s death continued to haunt her as she added, “ You have no idea what real panic and despair is until you see someone you love lying face down in a puddle – no, a torrent of blood. ‘
