Anwar El Ghazi admits he is struggling to adapt to life without football while the Premier League has been suspended during the corona virus crisis.

The UK top flight will resume at the earliest on April 30 due to COVID-19, with El Ghazi’s Aston Villa fighting to avoid top flight degradation.

Like all their best flight rivals, Villa’s players try to keep their fitness away from the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground, but El Ghazi finds it hard to create a structure for his days.

He said: “Training has been suspended and at the moment I am still at home. It is a very strange feeling. The weirdest feeling I have is that I’ve found that I really don’t have a life without football.

“Usually you get up and start training, and you are already busy preparing for the next fight.

“Now I get up and jog a bit, do some exercise in the yard, but I don’t feel like taking anything out of the day. It indicates that football is really my life. ‘

Villa is 19th on the table, two points adrift of safety, although they have a game on the other clubs trying to beat the drop.

When the Premier League finally resumes, Dean Smith’s team faces Chelsea at Villa Park. Their last game before the shutdown was a 4-0 loss in Leicester on March 9.
