Small cuts | Movie threat – newsdubai
Two longtime friends hope to reconnect over a weekend to rekindle their friendship in Maia Henkin’s short film, Small cutouts.
Pam (Elise Gerggreen) and Jo (Maia Henkin) are two long-time friends who have drifted apart over the years. When they arrive at their desert resort, Pam begins making moves to rekindle their friendship, such as initiating a conversation about their past and giving Jo half of a “best friends” necklace. Jo is having fun but it becomes clear that Jo doesn’t want to be here as she is always on her phone. As Jo’s passive-aggressive to subtly abusive behavior intensifies, Pam learns about Jo’s feelings (or lack thereof) for Pam.

“Pam begins to make moves to rekindle their friendship, such as…giving Jo a half ‘best friends necklace.”
Small cutouts is a simple and insightful story about a toxic friendship. The story is solid and beautifully performed by writer/director Henkin and Elise Berggreen. Henkin’s story brilliantly examines the subtle abuse and bullying that can happen between “friends” when friendship turns into contempt for one of them. You’d be hard-pressed not to see yourself in either role…if not both.
Small cutouts screened at HollyShorts Film Festival 2022.
