Andor wants to turn Rogue One upside down

With all the excitement surrounding the release of Obi-Wan Kenobiit is easy to forget that we have another Star wars TV series are waiting in the background. Andor is an upcoming prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which will feature Diego Luna, who repeats his role as Cassian Andor, but it may very well turn everything we have think we know of Rogue one vise versa.

Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy spoke with Vanity Fair to reveal how Star wars the prequel series will completely change the way you look Rogue one.

There are certain events that happen in these five years that are important and need to be aware of. There are certain people, characters, there are hereditary characters that the audience, the passionate audience, really feel they have an understanding of and know. In some cases, they are right. And in some cases, what we say is, ‘What you know, what you’ve been told, what’s on Wookieepedia, what you’ve told each other … is really completely wrong.’… is upside down, or it’s sideways, or it’s the opposite of what you thought was true. Or it’s a lot more interesting than you ever thought. Or it’s a lie and there’s a reason for it. I will say that there are some surprises in store.

Cassian Andor we meet in Rogue one is fully committed to the cause of the rebels, but Tony Gilroy says the character in the series is “really revolutionary, and cynical, and lost, and some mess … His adopted home will be the foundation of our entire first season, and we see that place being radicalized.” Andor will have plenty of time to tell his story as the first season will consist of twelve episodes, most of all live-action Star wars series so far. Another season is already being prepared, but Gilroy says he sees it as “second half of the novel. The first season is about him becoming a revolutionary, and the other 12 episodes take him to Rogue One.“

Andor does not yet have an official release date, but is expected to debut on Disney + this summer.
