See Emilia Clarke as Amber Heards Mera replacement in ‘Aquaman 2’
With a fan request to remove Amber Heard as Mera from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom gaining ground, imagines a new concept design Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke in the role.
Amber Heard was originally cast as Mera for 2017’s Justice League and went on to repeat the role of James Wans Aquaman the following year. While the film received rave reviews, many fans wondered if DC would rework Heard’s role in the sequel due to ongoing legal issues and allegations of abuse against her by ex-husband Johnny Depp. The issue has recently been resumed as the former couple has been embroiled in a lengthy, highly publicized slander case involving allegations of abuse on both sides.
Fans have requested that Amber Heard be removed from Aquaman successor in the light of the allegations in the trial. While it seems unlikely she will be removed at this late stage, the debate has spawned numerous ideas from fans as to who DC should throw to replace Heard as Mera. A popular suggestion is Emilia Clarke.
Emilia Clarke has certain credentials for the role of Mera, the Atlantic Princess and Aquaman’s love interest. Not only is she an incredibly talented actress who already has experience working on large franchises – besides Game of Thronesshe appeared in Star wars spin off Solo – but in the early seasons of Game of Thrones her character, Daenerys, was Khal Drogo’s bride, played by Aquaman actor Jason Momoa. Check out the concept design by artist “diamonddead” below, which shows how Clarke could look like Mera:
At present, no official plans to recast Mera have been announced, which will be seen next time Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. Should Amber Heard’s cast ever be reconsidered by DC, Emilia Clarke would certainly be a worthy candidate for the title. With next year Lightning expected to shake up the DCEU, it is possible that roles like Mera may be reworked in the future.
